Sam has had a big month (and a half) since the last update. At his six-month checkup he measured in the 75th percentile in weight (18 lb 6 oz) and 90th in height (27.5 inches). He is now officially heavier than Canoe the cat, although at Canoe's recent yearly checkup he tipped the scales at a hefty 17.2 pounds himself, so this competition is not over.Sam took a couple of big trips recently -- first to Michigan for Thanksgiving, where he met up with Grandma Jackie, Aunt Claire, and aunts and uncles and cousins in the Ledy family. He then took a mid-December trip to Seattle to visit his Grandma and Grampa, Uncle Tim and Aunt LaVerne, cousins Maddy, Quincy, and Michele, and Bo the dog. We had an early Christmas and Sam was very happy to receive a bunch of new books, toys, and clothes from his family. He sat on Santa's lap, but somehow couldn't get Santa to smile.
We then went back to Michigan again for actual Christmas, with the same cast of characters as Thanksgiving, and had a great time opening more presents. And this time there was lots of snow! Back in Chicago for New Years, Sam watched his first Rose Bowl and rang in 2014 with giggles and a few pukes.
We tried lots of new things this month, including solid foods. Sam started with rice cereal, and has moved to oatmeal cereal for breakfast. For dinner he has tried peas, butternut squash, and sweet potato. Tonight: apples! He can sit up on his own now, although there is a little teetering still. And, as of yesterday, he can scoot himself, wormlike, in a forward direction to get his favorite toys. Primordial crawling! He will be fully mobile before we know it, and then, look out world. His other new talent is to notice when a camera is taking his picture, and then stop and smile in the camera's direction. He is not camera shy.
Can't wait to see what the next month brings! Photos can be found here!
